Long Term Problem Clarifications
Refer to the national website for up to date problem clarifications or to submit a question (the deadline to submit for a clarification is 2/15/10).
- If the list required in B13 is not presented to the Staging Area Judge before time begins, Penalty E10 will be assessed.
- If the list required in B13 is not presented to the Staging Area Judge before time begins, Penalty E9 will be assessed.
- The measurement given in C1 for the floor area should be 8′ x 22′ or 2.8m x 6.7m.
- If the list required in B13 is not presented to the Staging Area Judge before time begins, Penalty E9 will be assessed.
- Correction: B7a must be portrayed as the discovery of a structure or sculpture that exists today but when it is discovered it is considered lost and/or forgotten, or the people living at the time are not aware of its previous existence.
- C3a: Once a column’s footprint has been measured during weigh-in, it must not change in size during the performance. If it is designed to do so, a Spirit of the problem Penalty will be assessed. If a column is not the same size at its top and bottom, the team must mark the bottom end.
- C11f: The weight placement portion of the problem solution will end if the columns touch each other in any way.
- D2a: Bonus points should read three or two. The Spirit of the Problem requires more than one column to be used for Testing.
- Figure B: Ignore the word camouflaged
- B5: The word performance refers to the 8-minute presentation time. The team must use its device and test its structure during this time to receive score. The team does not have to integrate the use of the device and/or testing its structure into its Style presentation.
- If the list required in B13 is not presented to the Staging Area Judge before time begins, Penalty E9 will be assessed.
- B10b should read: cannot be physically portrayed by team members in any way except to provide voices and sounds.

Coaches training is for all that will be coaching an Odyssey of the Mind team this year. You are welcome to attend even if you do not have an established team yet but would like to learn about the program and what it takes to start a team. If you are not able to attend feel free to send another parent or school representative in your place. Come learn all you need to know to help you and your team be ready for a fun year of problem solving and competing at the state tournament. Please rsvp to info@maodyssey.org.
